Big Kitty and the Scaredy Cats originated in 2004, on the spur of the moment, in Perth, WA.  The line-up then featured Big Kitty (a.k.a. Anna), her trusty sidekick Machine Gun Matt Eves on slap double bass, Kieran "Bernie" Murphy of Murphy's Lore and The Rhymes on sticks, and the perpetually perplexed-looking Jason "Of course I'll be on time" Smith (pre-Gretsch White Falcon) on guitar.

After knocking a bemused crowd out of their smelly socks at the famed Mustang Bar in Northbridge, Big Kitty and MGM picked up sticks and relocated to sunny Queensland - soon to be in desperate need of a new Kieran and Jason.

Time swooshed by, and soon Matt's double bass was being amply worked out as the permanent bassist for local traditional jazz outfit the Caxton Street Jazz Band.  On a whim, Big Kitty put her hand up for a slot at Greazefest (Australia's national rockabilly and kustom kulture festival) in 2005, unexpectedly nabbed it along with the Channel 7 TV feature spot in the pre-Greazefest advertising blitz, grabbed a couple of local contacts to fill the large empty boots of Bernie and Jason, and the Big Kitty litter grew.

The Greazefest gig in 2005 was the rockabilly debut of The Amazing Miss Lee on skins, closely followed by the sneaky recruitment of Guv'nor Harvey Wallbanger Esquire on wailin' axe.  The four-piece proceeded to play a number of private and public gigs throughout 2005 and 2006, including a dance event for Just Rock Ipswich, Rockabilly Gals #1 at Carina Bowls, Custom Rockabilly #3 at the Troubadour and others.  They rocked Wintersun (national Rock 'n' roll festival) withe new kitten on the block, country chicken pickin' guitarman Rupert Jenner, and were invited back to Greazefest again in 2006 to share the main stage with the Retro Rockets and Rockbottom James and the Detonators, before taking a several-month break from gigs so that BK and MGM could get their butts organised for their upcoming nuptials.  2006 saw the litter expand unplanned - it's grand - with the addition of Jules Victor replacing Miss Lee on sticks, and following a triumphant, rompin' stompin' debut gig at their favourite bar Satchmo's in West End they've blast off into the stratosphere during 2007, with a much-stalked monthly residency at Satchmo's, anointment as the darlings of the 15th Annual Brisbane Blues Festival, a return visit to Wintersun (supporting Wanda Jackson!), raucous appearances at Maggie Black's, and a spot on the 2007 Gympie Muster roster.  These were rounded out by several more rockabilly events such as the second Rockabilly Gals night in 2007 and the inaugural Saints and Sinners New Years' Ball to ring in 2008.  The new year has seen a return to Satchmo's, a return to the Brisbane Blues Festival, and a new arrival for BK and MGM expected in April 08.
